1916년부터 2000년대 까지 보그 매거진으로 보는 100년 코트의 역사
코트는 영원하다

최근 몇년간 세계는 지독한 무더위와 겨울 한파의 극적인 기후 변화로 부터 생존을 위한 전쟁을 치르고 있다. 이런 극단적인 추위에 대한민국은 수년전 부터 롱패딩 바람이 불기도했다. 한국에서 고유명사 처럼 쓰이는 롱패딩의 원어 표현은 패디드 코트다. 추위가 어제 오늘의 일은 아니었다면 추위를 막기위한 코트의 역사도 짧지 않을것이다. 그렇다면 사람들은 언제부터, 코트를 입기 시작했을까? 에디터는 코트의 역사가 적어도 100년은 넘었다고 확신한다. 왜냐고? 이 근거 없는 의문에 대한 답변은 여기 보그 매거진이 대신할 것이다.

패션 업계에서 절대적인 영향력을 미치는 '보그', 'GQ' 를 비롯해 '와이어드', '베티니페어' 등 수많은 잡지를 보유한 미국 출판 기업 콘데나스트가 누적된 적자로 3개의 잡지를 매각하고 최근엔 온라인 구독 서비스 '보그 비즈니스'를 출시하는 등, 1892년 창간된 보그나 1909년 창립한 컨데나스트 모두 100년 넘게 그 명성을 이어오고 있지만 그 명성이 예전 같지 않다. 유행은 돌고 돈다 지만, 아니러니하게도 치열한 패션 인더스트리에서 영원한 브랜드란 쉽지 않아 보인다.
